HIVE Underwriters names Polly Mays head of cargo
Mays will join in November and will report to HIVE’s head of marine as the company expands its cargo underwriting proposition.
HIVE Underwriters, an independent specialty MGA, has appointed Polly Mays as Head of Cargo, with a mandate to lead the continued development of the MGA’s cargo proposition within its expanding Marine division, Reinsurance News reports.
Mays brings a decade of experience across cargo insurance risks, including cargo, stock throughput, excess stock and project cargo, and she is joining from Sompo. Before Sompo, the executive worked at CNA Hardy, where she wrote lead subscription business in the Lloyd’s market and 100% company paper, giving her experience across both distribution models and networks across the retail and Lloyd’s markets.
In her new role, she will help strengthen HIVE’s Marine division, which specializes in technically complex marine risks such as Marine Cargo, Marine Liability, Transportation and Logistics, Marine War and Marine Miscellaneous. Mays is expected to join the company in November after completing contractual obligations with her current employer, and she will report to HIVE’s Head of Marine, Alistair Marriott.
HIVE’s CEO, Bruce Carman, said the appointment reflects the momentum HIVE is building and its ambition to establish market-leading underwriting teams across the classes it writes. The Marine division is focused on practitioner-led underwriting, data-led decision making and long-term broker partnerships, according to the announcement.
