Indonesia targets mass production of EVs by 2028
Indonesia is building an EV factory complex in Subang, West Java, with initial capacity for up to 50,000 vehicles annually before expanding to as much as 300,000 per year.
Indonesia plans to begin mass production of home-grown electric cars no later than 2028, President Prabowo Subianto said, aiming to increase EV adoption in Southeast Asia’s largest economy, according to SCMP Economy.
Prabowo said the government is building a factory complex in Subang, West Java. The development includes a 60-hectare site intended to produce up to 50,000 vehicles per year, with plans to expand into a 539-hectare facility capable of up to 300,000 vehicles annually.
He announced the target at the launch of a national electric motorcycle programme designed to create an integrated ecosystem covering manufacturing, batteries, charging, and after-sales services.
To support sales of electric scooters, state-owned lenders will offer cheaper vehicle loans with longer tenors, Rosan Roeslani, CEO of Indonesian sovereign wealth fund Danantara, said at the event.
