Overroute rolls AI agents across JB Hunt workflows to automate trucking tasks
The AI platform is being used by hundreds of JB Hunt users to surface internal data for customer-facing teams and manage service exceptions, with additional appointment-setting pilots underway.
Overroute, an AI software company incubated through JB Hunt’s UpLabs program, is deploying AI agents across JB Hunt workflows, aiming to automate trucking logistics operations and improve asset utilization, FreightWaves reports. In an interview, Overroute CEO Alex Reed said the rollout is focused on automating lower-risk processes while keeping humans in the loop where needed.
The platform has been deployed across hundreds of JB Hunt users across the carrier’s intermodal, over-the-road, and dedicated business units, Reed said. Overroute’s tool surfaces internal data to help customer-facing representatives respond to requests, build reports, and manage service exceptions, described as an initial phase of a larger effort aimed at the asset-side layers of trucking technology.
Reed said the company is piloting appointment-setting capabilities and has tested what he called operationally focused data gap calling. The next phase, expected over the coming months, is intended to help frontline transportation managers and operations managers make better decisions about driver and asset positioning across JB Hunt’s network.
Reed characterized Overroute’s automation approach in three tiers, fully automated tasks, tasks requiring human approval, and tasks that always require a human in the loop. He also emphasized that the company chose to work directly with an asset-based carrier like JB Hunt rather than first targeting freight brokers, to gain a detailed view of enterprise operations from the start.
