Poland detains Russian accused of being recruited to kill in Warsaw
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the suspect was detained on August 7 and authorities prevented an execution targeting a man with both Ukrainian and US passports.
Poland has arrested a Russian man whom Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said was recruited by Moscow to kill a Ukrainian-American citizen in Warsaw, according to Reuters as carried by SCMP Economy.
Tusk said the suspect was detained on August 7 and that the recruitment was aimed at a person he described as inconvenient to the Putin regime, without providing additional details about the target's identity.
Tusk said Polish authorities, including the Internal Security Agency and police, stopped what he characterized as an execution at the last minute.
The Russian embassy in Warsaw did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while Moscow has previously dismissed accusations of attacks by European powers and said the West is stoking anti-Russian paranoia.
