RiceTec opens new Texas greenhouse to expand rice breeding research

The new facility in Alvin, Texas is expected to expand RiceTec’s breeding and research capacity as it develops technologies aimed at helping rice growers raise yields and improve resource efficiency.

RiceTec opened a new greenhouse facility in Alvin, Texas on Aug. 13, the company said, framing the site as a way to advance breeding and research for rice growers worldwide.

In a statement tied to the opening, RiceTec said the greenhouse expands its capacity to accelerate development of new technologies and supports its goal of delivering innovations it believes can help farmers increase yields and improve resource efficiency.

RiceTec also said the greenhouse strengthens its ability to develop technologies that contribute to global food security, and it highlighted collaboration, safety, and scientific excellence through remarks from Amitabh Mohanty, its global head of R&D.

Founded in 1988, RiceTec describes itself as the only seed company focused solely on rice, with operations in the United States, India, and Mercosur, and a history that includes commercializing hybrid rice seed in the Americas.
