ArcelorMittal expands Microsoft Azure deal with Fabric, Purview, Foundry
The steelmaker is adding Microsoft Fabric, Purview, and Foundry to its Azure “Cloud First, Data Centric” plan to modernize IT and embed AI across its global operations.
ArcelorMittal is expanding its partnership with Microsoft by adding Microsoft Fabric, Purview, and Foundry to its Azure-based “Cloud First, Data Centric” strategy, Reuters reported, with financial terms not disclosed. The update is intended to modernize ArcelorMittal’s IT systems and support the company’s goal of embedding AI across its operations.
The company said the move is aimed at reducing reliance on legacy IT, strengthening cybersecurity, and using data and AI as a competitive edge. ArcelorMittal CIO Nik Puri said the effort is about reshaping its IT operating model, embedding data and AI into how it runs its IT estate, not just upgrading systems.
Because the investment is focused on IT modernization rather than a direct revenue-generating agreement, the payoff is expected to be indirect and harder to measure. ArcelorMittal also remains exposed to the broader swings of its cyclical, commodity-driven steel business.
The partnership also underscores Microsoft’s push to pair AI with cloud services, according to CNBC. CNBC’s Jim Cramer said Microsoft avoided some AI-spending skepticism by staying free cash flow positive and monetizing AI investments through Azure and Copilot subscriptions.
