Hong Kong is betting on a Northern Metropolis university town as a core engine for education, innovation, and technology, according to SCMP Economy. The planned zone would stretch from Ngau Tam Mei to Hung Shui Kiu and cover the New Territories North area, spanning 1,000 hectares, with 300 hectares set aside for campus space.

The initiative is part of a broader five-part look at the city’s first five-year blueprint, with SCMP Economy reporting that university leaders are supportive but also cautious. They are pressing for clearer development parameters, a defined timeline, and an agreed financing model before they can fully align their plans.
