US coastguards begin two-week training program with Taiwan
The Taiwan Coast Guard said the drills focus on small-boat operations, team coordination, and emergency response as Chinese activity near the island increases.
The United States has sent a coastguard team to train Taiwan’s coastguard as mainland China steps up its presence east of the island, according to Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration, as reported by SCMP Economy.
The two-week training program, led by US instructors, began on Monday and includes exercises designed to strengthen small-boat operations and improve team coordination among frontline officers.
The administration said the training is aimed at helping officers handle an increasingly complex environment, including building better teamwork, on-the-spot judgment, and the ability to respond to emergencies.
It also noted that the American Institute in Taiwan, the de facto US embassy, released information on Taiwan-US coastguard exchange achievements, describing close and steady partnership in maritime security and law enforcement.
