World Liberty Financial delays sale of Maldives resort token
The planned token launch next year was pushed back because travel disruptions tied to the Iran war affected the resort project timeline, according to people familiar with the matter.
World Liberty Financial, the cryptocurrency project backed by the Trump family, has delayed plans to sell a token tied to a Trump-branded resort in the Maldives, Bloomberg reported. The sale was previously expected to begin next year, offering token buyers exposure to revenue from loans financing the resort development.
According to the report, the delay was attributed to the Iran war disrupting travel in the region, with people familiar with the matter explaining the timing shift. A World Liberty Financial spokesperson did not comment on the Bloomberg account.
World Liberty Financial said the venture uses tokenization to represent real-world assets, using Securitize, which the project tapped in February to help represent loan interests as a digital token that could be traded onchain. The company is also exploring tokenization beyond real estate, including commodities such as oil and gas.
The protocol’s native token, WLFI, rose 2.7% on the news before giving back the gains and returning to parity, CoinDesk reported. CoinDesk also noted that WLFI is down 88.5% from its record high in September 2025.
