Hongkongers increasingly use supplements, boosting wellness industry growth
A Frost & Sullivan analysis estimates Hong Kong’s supplement market will reach HK$12.7 billion in retail sales by 2028.
According to SCMP Economy, younger Hongkongers are increasingly turning to supplements to support energy, immunity, digestion, and athletic performance, as experts caution that excessive use should not replace a balanced diet.
The outlet highlights one wellness practitioner who spends about HK$2,000 (US$255) per month on a routine that includes MCT oil, collagen, multivitamins, creatine, and enzymes, alongside habits such as meditation and journaling.
SCMP Economy attributes the broader trend to rising health consciousness, an ageing population, and the rebound in tourism, while noting that Hongkongers are part of millennial and Gen Z consumers driving the US$2 trillion global wellness industry.
The report says Hong Kong’s wellness industry is projected to reach HK$12.7 billion in retail sales by 2028, citing an analysis of the city’s supplement market by Frost & Sullivan.
