Alibaba to sell gaming unit Lingxi Games to Trustar Capital

The deal comes as Alibaba concentrates resources on e-commerce, cloud computing and AI, after earlier exits from Sun Art Retail and Intime Retail.

Alibaba Group Holding has agreed to sell its wholly owned gaming business Lingxi Games to Trustar Capital, according to an internal letter seen by the South China Morning Post and signed by Lingxi CEO Zhou Bingshu.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Lingxi’s reporting line also shifted to Alibaba chief financial officer Toby Xu Hong in 2025, according to Chinese gaming media outlet Game Grape at the time.

The sale is part of Alibaba’s effort to move away from noncore businesses and prioritize its e-commerce, cloud computing and artificial intelligence units. The gaming divestment follows Alibaba’s earlier offloading of assets including its exits from hypermarket operator Sun Art Retail and department store chain Intime Retail.

Lingxi Games was established as a brand in 2019, building on Alibaba’s prior gaming operations and its 2017 acquisition of Ejoy, a studio founded by former NetEase chief operating officer Zhan Zhonghui. The unit operates in-house development studios and gaming platforms Jiuyou and JiaoYiMao.
