Berkshire doubles Delta stake after 13F shows big Q2 increase
Berkshire’s Delta position rose 44% in Q2 2026 to 57.3 million shares, worth about $5.4 billion at end-June.
Berkshire Hathaway has increased its investment in Delta Air Lines, reversing years of skepticism about owning airlines and signaling renewed conviction in the sector. According to Yahoo Finance, recent 13F filings show Berkshire’s stake in Delta jumped 44% during the second quarter of 2026 to 57.3 million shares.
The enlarged position was valued at roughly $5.4 billion as of the end of June, after an earlier build in May that totaled about $2.6 billion at the end of March. The purchases came as Greg Abel took over as Berkshire’s chief executive from Warren Buffett in January, following Abel’s approach outlined to shareholders in February.
Delta’s latest operating performance also features in the backdrop to Berkshire’s adds. The airline reported record second-quarter revenue of $17.7 billion, up 14% year over year even as capacity grew about 1%, with pretax profit of $1.4 billion and earnings of $1.56 per share.
Delta reported an operating margin of 9% and return on invested capital of 11%, plus diversified non-ticket revenue sources contributing 61% of total revenue in the quarter. Yahoo Finance also notes cargo revenue rose 39%, third-party maintenance grew more than 30%, and Delta expects to collect $9 billion from Amex this year, up 10% from 2025.
