Blanche backs Pirro after Trump criticizes Reflecting Pool case

The Trump administration fast-tracked a roughly $14.7 million Reflecting Pool renovation that was followed by an algae bloom and peeling materials, leading to vandalism charges.

U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said on NBC’s Meet the Press that he supports top Washington prosecutor Jeanine Pirro, after President Donald Trump criticized Pirro’s handling of a vandalism case tied to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

According to Reuters, the Trump administration fast-tracked a renovation of the Reflecting Pool ahead of the Fourth of July, costing about $14.7 million. Within weeks, an algae bloom developed and material at the bottom of the pool started peeling off.

Federal authorities later charged former U.S. Olympian David Hearn and others with vandalism. In a court filing seeking dismissal, Pirro blamed the peeling issues on flawed work by a contractor and accused the Interior Department of initially providing incomplete information, the report said.

Blanche told NBC he does not fault Trump for being frustrated, adding that a witness said they observed vandalism, Reuters reported.
