CBH unveils new locomotives to boost WA grain export capacity
CBH said its new rail fleet will help increase how quickly grain can be moved to port during high-value delivery windows, supporting WA growers under its Path to 2033 plan.
CBH Group marked the arrival of new narrow-gauge locomotives and wagons at Metro Grain Centre in Forrestfield, part of what the company described as its largest rail fleet investment in history.
The new fleet is intended to help move more grain to port faster, particularly in time windows that deliver the most value for Western Australia grain growers, according to CBH. The company linked the milestone to its cooperative model and Path to 2033 Strategy, saying grower value is being reinvested into the supply chain.
CBH said that since 2022 it has been investing in its supply chain capabilities to build peak monthly export capacity of 3 million tonnes. It also stated that its storage and handling system receives and exports about 90% of the Western Australian grain harvest.
CBH purchased 17 new narrow-gauge CM20ACi dual-cab, diesel-electric locomotives for its rail fleet via an agreement with Wabtec Corp, a US-based supplier.
