Hackers exploit macOS Screen Sharing flaw to secretly mine Monero

The Dutch cyber agency says the attack chain uses an authentication flaw to reach root access and deploy Monero miners, with proof-of-concept code now circulating.

Decrypt reports that a macOS Screen Sharing authentication flaw is being exploited by attackers to gain unauthorized access to devices and install Monero mining software.

The outlet says the Dutch cyber agency found that the intrusion process could escalate to root access, then plant Monero miners on compromised systems.

Decrypt adds that public proof-of-concept code is circulating, suggesting more actors may be able to reproduce the approach.
