Markets look to Jackson Hole and Fed minutes amid quiet data week
September rate hike odds are currently a bit south of 50%, after CPI and PPI came in largely as expected and retail sales were weak.
Markets are entering a light economic data week as investors look for clues on the Federal Reserve’s next move, according to Redfin News.
The week’s key item is the release of minutes from the last Fed meeting, which will be scrutinized for how the other committee members are weighing inflation concerns, particularly given weak recent labor market readings.
Investors will also focus on next Friday’s Jackson Hole symposium, which is expected to kick off another round of information that could shift expectations for the Sept 16 Fed meeting.
In the aftermath of last week’s mostly expected CPI and PPI inflation reports, forecasters are expecting a largely benign PCE inflation reading at the end of August, and odds of a September hike are now a bit south of 50%.
