Redfin adds Winnie childcare details to for-sale home listings
Redfin says housing and childcare for one child consume 52% of the median U.S. household income, with Los Angeles and New York near an entire income.
Redfin is partnering with Winnie, a childcare and early education marketplace, to display local daycare and preschool information directly on Redfin for-sale home listings, aiming to help families assess neighborhood childcare options while they search.
Home searchers will be able to view nearby childcare details including distance from the home, reviews, financial aid availability, and staff certifications, on Redfin’s desktop and mobile websites, with the information set to arrive in the Redfin app later this year.
Redfin said its research using Redfin and Winnie data found that housing and childcare for one child together take up 52% of the median U.S. household income, and in major metro areas like Los Angeles and New York those two expenses can consume nearly an entire household income.
The company added that for families, childcare can significantly affect both day to day routines and budgets, and it is positioning the new listing data as another way for buyers to evaluate the real-world tradeoffs of different neighborhoods.
