UK summer jobs rise as hospitality and tourism hiring picks up

REC data shows there were 1.67 million active job postings in July, up 7.7% year over year but down 2.6% from June.

UK entry-level summer job listings, including roles such as catering and bar work, saw a slight rebound this year, helped by exceptionally warm weather and a busy calendar of major events, according to new UK figures cited by the Guardian Business.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), which runs a monthly labour market tracker, said seasonal hiring increased in hospitality and tourism compared with summer 2025, with a double-digit rise in hospitality and tourism job advertisements over the summer period.

Despite the overall uptick, the REC noted a small cooling in postings during July, with a slight dip in both active job postings and new job postings compared with the prior month.

REC chief membership and innovation officer Maxine Bligh said the return is not yet strong enough for all young people, with many entry-level jobs still not bouncing back as much as desired, and suggested opportunities may last longer than usual if warmer conditions continue.
