Ikea plans UK online platform for members to sell used furniture
The company says the UK site is due to launch in the next few months and will let Ikea Family members trade directly with each other locally.
Ikea is expanding into online secondhand trading in the UK with a new platform that will connect Ikea Family loyalty members so they can buy and sell pre owned items locally.
The Swedish furniture retailer, which already sells preloved products through physical stores, is expected to launch the UK version in the next few months, following trials in Spain and Norway.
In Spain, Ikea has used tools such as pre filled product descriptions and price suggestions, and it offers sellers an extra 15% if they accept payment in an Ikea gift card. It also plans a 5% protection fee starting next year, aimed at covering costs related to sales, in a system described as similar to Vinted.
Ikea said further details of the UK online site will be announced in coming months, as demand for secondhand buying continues to increase and competition intensifies across marketplaces including eBay and Vinted.
