Jeep Cherokee to be first US vehicle built on Stellantis STLA One platform
Stellantis expects to lift investment in its Belvidere, Illinois plant to more than $800 million and target 20% cost efficiency from the STLA One modular architecture.
Stellantis says the next-generation Jeep Cherokee will be the first US vehicle assembled on its STLA One modular platform, which the automaker positions as a cornerstone of its FaSTLAne 2030 strategy announced in May 2026. The company describes STLA One as a scalable vehicle architecture intended to support multiple powertrains and vehicle sizes using common interfaces to reduce complexity and speed development.
Stellantis said the platform is designed to target 20% cost efficiency, supported by modularity by design and new battery choices. The company also laid out broader manufacturing goals, including targeting 50% of volume on three global platforms by 2030 and up to 70% component reuse, with the aim of shortening time to market and strengthening supplier stability.
The next-generation Cherokee is expected to be assembled at the Belvidere Assembly Plant near Chicago, with the facility slated to assemble a minimum of two vehicles on the new architecture. As preparations move forward, Stellantis expects to increase investment in Belvidere to more than $800 million, up from $600 million announced in October 2025, and said the plant will be capable of producing all powertrain variants on two.
