Metaplanet to move into US Bitcoin treasury via Super League stake
Metaplanet plans to contribute 2,100 Bitcoin and $2.5 million cash to Super League, which it expects to rename Superplanet, with the deal targeted to close in Q4 2026.
Metaplanet, the Tokyo-listed company that uses Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset, plans to expand its strategy into the United States through a controlling stake in Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise. Cointelegraph reports the approach is designed to bring Metaplanet’s existing Bitcoin treasury into a US platform, rather than requiring additional BTC purchases.
Under the proposed transaction, Metaplanet plans to contribute 2,100 Bitcoin and $2.5 million in cash to Super League, which is expected to be renamed Superplanet and become the company’s US Bitcoin treasury vehicle. The 2,100 BTC contribution is described as just under 5% of Metaplanet’s 43,000 BTC holdings, worth about $135 million at current Bitcoin prices, according to Cointelegraph.
Cointelegraph adds that Metaplanet says the structure would create two paths to raise capital, with Superplanet tapping US markets while Metaplanet continues fundraising in Japan. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions including approval from Super League shareholders, and may also enable US-focused acquisitions in the corporate Bitcoin treasury space.
After the announcement, Super League Enterprise shares surged more than 50%, Cointelegraph reports, alongside a sharp rise in trading activity. Trading volume reached about 37.3 million shares versus roughly 393,000 shares previously, an increase of nearly 95-fold based on Yahoo Finance data cited in the report.
