REMAX CEO Erik Carlson to step down after Real deal closes

The Real Brokerage acquisition remains subject to remaining closing conditions, including a British Columbia court order, with both sides expecting a close within the next couple of weeks.

HousingWire confirmed that REMAX CEO Erik Carlson plans to step down once The Real Brokerage acquisition closes and then join the Real REMAX Board. A Real spokesperson told HousingWire the announcement was made internally, and HousingWire said Carlson joined REMAX in 2023.

The outlet also reported plans to leave REMAX from other executives, including Chris Lim, chief growth officer and president, and Travis Saxton, executive vice president of strategy. HousingWire noted that reports about those departures were initially raised by Real Estate News and were described as unconfirmed by HousingWire.

Shareholders at both Real and REMAX approved the proposed combination at special meetings, moving the companies closer to forming the Real REMAX Group. HousingWire said the transaction first was announced in April 2026, but closing depends on remaining conditions, including a final order from the Supreme Court of British Columbia approving deal arrangement aspects.

HousingWire added that the parties expect closing to occur shortly after all conditions are satisfied, which they anticipate will be in the next couple of weeks, while mortgage rates declined for a second straight week across major loan types. The outlet said prospective homebuyers are showing mixed signals and that stress is visible among current borrowers whose budgets may be stretched.
