UHS completes $835 million Talkspace deal to expand mental health network

The transaction closed on August 17 after regulatory approvals, adding a referral pathway between Talkspace virtual care and UHS inpatient and intensive outpatient services.

Universal Health Services has completed its acquisition of Talkspace, paying $5.25 per share in cash, for an enterprise value of about $835 million, according to Insurance Business.

UHS, one of the largest US hospital operators, said it brings 346 inpatient behavioral health facilities, 29 acute care hospitals, and 168 outpatient and other facilities across 40 states into the combined model.

Talkspace operates a network of about 6,000 licensed therapists and psychiatrists across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, and its services were available to more than 200 million people through health insurance and other benefits channels as of December 31, 2025.

UHS described the integrated care approach as bi-directional in remarks made at a Leerink conference in March 2026, with members needing more intensive care referred into UHS facilities, and UHS patients stepping down from inpatient treatment able to transition to Talkspace virtual support.
