UK ministers weigh North Sea projects Jackdaw and Rosebank
If approved, Jackdaw alone could supply more than 6.0% of UK gas by this winter, supporting energy security while the government also pursues net zero.
OilPrice argues Britain faces a trade-off as ministers consider developing North Sea oil and gas assets Jackdaw and Rosebank, weighing additional domestic production against greater reliance on imports.
The outlet says oil and gas still account for about 75.0% of current UK energy needs, and it frames the decision as tied to both energy security and emissions, with extreme weather making climate action more urgent.
According to OilPrice, Jackdaw could provide more than 6.0% of UK gas supply by this winter, enough to heat around 1.4 million homes, while Rosebank is presented as another opportunity to strengthen domestic output.
OilPrice also cites the scale of planned investment, saying more than 3 billion pounds has already gone into the projects, total anticipated investment is 10.8 billion pounds, and the assets could generate 28.7 billion pounds for the UK economy over their producing lives, alongside 1.4 billion pounds in tax revenues before the end of this Parliament.
