VIU by HUB targets proactive home and auto insurance coverage checks

The HUB-owned personal lines brokerage plans to add about 1,700 households per week, and cites a Harris Poll survey showing many consumers have not been contacted proactively in over a year.

VIU by HUB, a HUB International-owned personal lines brokerage, outlined a three-to-five-year plan to become more proactive with home and auto insurance customers, centering its strategy on advice, value, and rewards, according to Coverager.

At an internal event last week, the company said it aims to differentiate by providing neutral, customer-controlled guidance while extending beyond pure insurance protection. Examples described include proactively spotting coverage gaps, alerting homeowners to potential issues such as leaks, and reaching out before renewals rather than waiting for customers to ask for help.

VIU president Bryan Davis also said the brokerage measures clients instead of policies, reflecting an effort to manage more of a customer’s insurance needs over time. The company is currently adding around 1,700 households per week, and its approach is supported by a VIU survey conducted by The Harris Poll.

The survey found that among 1,663 US adults with home or auto insurance, 88% would value a provider that proactively alerts them when coverage no longer fits their life, but 56% said they had not been contacted proactively in more than a year or were unsure whether it had happened. Coverager also reported that 77% of respondents said they would be likely to obtain insurance through an entity they already use if it connected them with a licensed insurance professional, and that VIU embeds its shopping platform via partnerships including FirstService Residential and Spero Financial, which serves more than 45,000 members and manages over $700 million in assets.
