Bitcoin volatility sinks to historical lows as spot volume drops

Fidelity Digital Assets says spot trading volume is at the lowest level since 2019, while VanEck puts 30-day realized volatility at 27.2% annualized.

Bitcoin has been largely rangebound recently, with volatility compressed to a level Fidelity says is lower than 98.5% of all days in the asset’s 17-year history, according to Bitcoin Magazine. Fidelity Digital Assets also noted that spot trading volume has fallen to the lowest point since 2019.

Fidelity compared the setup to a coiled spring, arguing that the longer volatility stays compressed, the greater the potential for a meaningful move once it breaks. The article says bitcoin has been virtually unchanged over the past 30 days, and some analysts view a potential bottom as likely in.

Bitcoin Magazine also cites VanEck, which said bitcoin’s 30-day realized volatility dropped to 27.2% annualized from 30.4% the prior month. VanEck added that, based on the length of prior cycles, a bottom could form between September and November of this year.

The piece points to market context including a K33 Research note from December that 2025 was bitcoin’s least volatile year. It also links the current investor access shift to the 2024 approval of spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds, which expanded exposure through brokerage accounts and institutional ETF access.
