Duolingo buys Animade to expand its Design Studio capabilities
The acquisition comes about a week after Duolingo reported earnings and followed management emphasis on product improvements tied to user growth.
Duolingo has acquired Animade, a London-based animation and motion design studio, folding it into the company’s Design Studio, according to Yahoo Finance.
The move is positioned as part of Duolingo’s engagement-first product strategy, with the company pointing to character-driven streaks and animations as key to keeping lessons feeling game-like.
Yahoo Finance notes the deal arrived shortly after Duolingo reported earnings, when management tied 23% year-over-year growth in daily active users to product improvements, and highlighted that current-user retention reached an all-time high.
Duolingo also framed Animade’s purchase as a bet on human creativity, with design leadership saying motion design is central to helping learners understand, enjoy, and return to the app each day.
