Rosatom to train Uzbek nuclear technicians despite financing questions

Rosatom plans a training center near the Jizzakh plant site to prepare hundreds of Uzbek technicians, but Uzbekistan provided no start date for the program.

Rosatom says it is developing a training program for Uzbek technicians for a nuclear plant planned in Uzbekistan, even as questions about financing have dogged the Russian nuclear agency.

The program will require Rosatom specialists to build new training modules tailored to an envisioned “integrated nuclear plant” that includes both large-scale reactors and small modular reactors.

According to a statement published by Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy agency, once the training methodologies are developed, a center capable of training hundreds of technicians will be built near the planned plant site in the Jizzakh region, about 125 miles southwest of Tashkent.

Uzbek officials did not provide a timeline for when Rosatom would be ready to launch the training program, with financing concerns in 2026 raising expectations that the Uzbek reactor project could face delays.
