Trump restricts farmers’ access to USDA funding for rural energy

The USDA is changing its Rural Energy for America Program by eliminating upfront funding, analysts say it could leave many farmers unable to access energy efficiency and cheaper energy projects.

OilPrice reports that the Trump Administration is restricting access to a federal rural energy program for farmers in another move aimed at rolling back renewable energy support.

The outlet says the change is tied to the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program, known as REAP.

According to OilPrice, the major rule change would eliminate upfront funding, which analysts say would make energy efficiency projects and cheaper energy for farmers inaccessible to many.

The story notes the USDA has issued new rules affecting how the program funds rural energy efforts.
