Breakthrough high-temperature heat pumps could replace coal in industry

Scientists at Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems tested heat pumps at 320 degrees Fahrenheit to generate hot water and steam.

A new research breakthrough suggests high-temperature heat pumps could help reduce industrial reliance on fossil fuels, including coal. OilPrice reports that a team of scientists at Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE tested high-temperature heat pumps for industrial heat use.

In testing described by OilPrice, the heat pumps produced hot water and steam at 320 degrees Fahrenheit. The outlet says the results point to potential use for replacing coal in industrial settings where high-temperature heat is required.
