White House grid security order may disrupt battery storage supply chains
Rystad Energy says the August 26 executive order targeting Chinese-made grid components could have a bigger impact on battery storage supply chains than on transformers and switchgear.
OilPrice reports that a White House executive order intended to secure the US power grid from Chinese-made equipment could disrupt battery storage supply chains more than it affects the transformers and switchgear it targets.
The outlet cites new analysis from Rystad Energy, which argues the order is likely to create supply chain friction in battery storage even though it is aimed at specific grid hardware.
The executive order, known as 14421, was signed by President Donald Trump on August 26, 2026, according to OilPrice.
OilPrice also notes that the order names items such as substation transformers, grid-connected inverters, and battery energy storage, raising concerns about downstream impacts for the storage buildout.
