Scaramucci cites $100,000 bitcoin as key level for long-term sellers

SkyBridge founder Anthony Scaramucci said some “OG” holders that have held 10 to 15 years have used $100,000 as a trigger to sell as selling expectations become self-fulfilling.

Anthony Scaramucci, founder and managing partner at SkyBridge Capital and chairman of SALT, said some longtime bitcoin holders have treated $100,000 per coin as a “magic number” to sell after holding for 10 to 15 years, according to The Block.

Scaramucci argued that as bitcoin approached what he called an inflection point, expectations of increased selling contributed to a cascade of selling, with some participants having expected a “bitcoin super cycle” while others believed bitcoin would remain tied to its historical four-year pattern.

John Darsie, CEO of SALT and a SkyBridge partner, said bitcoin’s changing holder base reflects a broader maturation process, including some longtime holders and libertarians starting to sell portions while institutions, financial advisers, and family offices increasingly incorporate bitcoin into asset allocation.

Darsie said the shift has helped lower volatility and could be healthy if bitcoin continues developing as a store of value, while Scaramucci also pointed to a potential convergence between AI and blockchain, with AI agents likely to make transactions over blockchains.
