UAE halts trade and finance with Iran after ballistic missile claims
The UAE said one missile fell outside its territorial waters and the other fell within, prompting the pause in all economic ties with Iran.
The United Arab Emirates has halted all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran until further notice, after its defense ministry said Iran launched ballistic missiles that targeted the UAE.
UAE authorities said air defense systems detected two ballistic missiles originating from Iran, and that one missile fell outside UAE territorial waters while the second fell within them, according to the ministry and the UAE Foreign Ministry.
The UAE Foreign Ministry director of strategic communications, Afra Al Hameli, said the move is tied to regional escalations that undermine peace and security, and Iran had denied the accusations that the missiles originated from its territory.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the UAE claim contradicts principles of good neighborliness and warned other countries against making what it called baseless accusations.
