Uranium demand outlook strengthens as new contracting cycle nears
Sprott Asset Management expects a seasonal pickup in uranium contracting, while supply constraints could leave new contracts unable to fully meet rising reactor fuel needs.
Uranium’s long-term fundamentals are improving as governments look to nuclear power to strengthen domestic energy supply and as investors seek exposure to a growing energy needs backdrop, including the “new AI era,” ETF Trends reports.
According to a report from Sprott Asset Management cited by ETF Trends, baseline uranium and nuclear energy fundamentals remain steady, supported by ongoing views of nuclear power as a key part of a secure energy grid, plus higher uranium requirements from reactor life extensions and restarts.
Sprott’s ETF product management director, Jacob White, CFA, said a new contracting cycle is approaching, with both Europe and the United States needing to sign new uranium contracts to keep power systems operating, while uranium supplies may not be able to expand quickly enough to meet contracting demand.
ETF Trends also points investors toward the Sprott Uranium Miners ETF, URNM, which provides exposure to uranium miners and physical uranium through the ETF wrapper, framing it as positioned for the next contracting catalyst amid supply concentration and operational exposure.
