US-China still sorting AI talk details ahead of Xi visit
Officials have not decided which US government body would lead the proposed AI dialogue, and talks have not settled on whether private-sector or technical experts will join.
Washington and Beijing are still working through key details for a hoped-for artificial intelligence dialogue ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s planned visit to the United States in coming weeks, according to sources cited by SCMP Economy.
Two sources familiar with the discussions said the US side has not yet determined which part of the US government should take the lead, and the countries have not agreed on whether technical experts and private-sector representatives would be included.
The reporting also notes that a substantive AI dialogue would likely require participation from experts at AI laboratories, not only senior diplomats, underscoring uncertainty over the talks’ scope and format.
