Vinted faces user complaints after bans tied to alleged fraud checks

Some users say they were suspended or permanently banned after changing prices or listing second-hand items, with thousands reporting issues with Vinted's automated responses.

BBC Business reports that thousands of Vinted users say they have been wrongly suspended or permanently banned on the preloved marketplace, arguing automated fraud and counterfeit checks have flagged ordinary listings.

The outlet describes cases including a buyer who relisted a pair of sandals after they did not fit, then received a permanent ban. Vinted said bans stemmed from “fraudulent activity, such as selling counterfeit items,” and said most users have positive experiences.

Users point to what they believe are AI generated responses during appeals and customer service, with a website that collects complaints reporting more than 4,000 users have logged their experiences. The same outlet says the site also recorded thousands of reports of permanent bans and users who felt ignored by support.

BBC Business also includes the account of a professional seller who said he was permanently banned after listing a used North Face fleece but had the ban lifted after appealing two weeks later, though he described the process as costly.

Vinted did not comment on individual cases, but told the outlet its teams work to handle issues on the platform. The article says Vinted also framed some enforcement as a response to increased fake items earlier in the year.
