Cathay Pacific to launch direct Hong Kong to Almaty flights in January
The three-times-weekly service starts January 9, cutting the trip to about 6 to 7 hours versus typical layover journeys of 10 to 14 hours.
Cathay Pacific Airways will begin direct passenger flights between Hong Kong and Almaty, Kazakhstan, in January, marking the carrier’s first Central Asian destination and the only nonstop route between the two cities, according to the South China Morning Post.
The service will operate three times per week, with flights scheduled to depart Hong Kong at 4:25pm and arrive in Almaty at 8:30pm local time, and the return flight leaving Almaty at 9:50pm and landing in Hong Kong at 7:00am the following day, subject to regulatory approval.
Cathay said the flights will be operated by Airbus A330-300 aircraft, with each trip taking about 6 to 7 hours, compared with the usual journey time of 10 to 14 hours depending on layovers.
A check by the South China Morning Post found one-way fares for January 9 start at HK$2,296 (US$293) in economy and HK$14,476 in business, with the flight scheduled to take 7 hours and 5 minutes.
