Employers increasingly add GLP-1 point-solution vendors to manage access

The share of employers using GLP-1 point-solution vendors rose to 28% in 2026, while 40% already cover branded GLP-1 obesity drugs.

Employers that already cover branded GLP-1 medications for obesity are largely not expanding coverage further, but they are investing in the management layer around existing coverage, according to a 2026 Pulse of the Purchaser survey published by the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions.

The survey, based on 408 employer and purchaser responses collected in May and June 2026, found that 40% of employers currently cover branded GLP-1 medications for obesity, while 23% are considering it. The combined 63% share has stayed relatively stable since at least 2024, indicating interest in broader coverage is not accelerating.

What is changing is the approach to benefit design and utilization controls. The use of GLP-1 point-solution vendors, described as third-party programs that manage employer-sponsored access including eligibility screening and prior authorization support, rose from 11% in 2024 to 28% in 2026, while an additional 39% are considering a vendor.

Among employers that currently cover or are considering branded GLP-1s, 83% are using or considering a point-solution vendor, compared with 29% among employers not covering branded GLP-1s, highlighting how closely management decisions track coverage commitments, according to Insurance Business. The outlet also notes that this shift aligns with earlier analysis that the debate is moving from whether to cover GLP-1s to how to keep utilization financially sustainable.
