Hong Kong reconsideration requests for university placements see success jump

The Joint University Programmes Admissions System received 453 reconsideration requests this year after rechecking entrance exam results, and 204 of them are expected to move to a “better” degree offer.

Hong Kong’s university admissions body said nearly two-thirds of students who requested reconsideration of their placement after reviewed entrance exam results will receive improved outcomes versus their previous allocations, according to SCMP Economy.

The office for the Joint University Programmes Admissions System reported that 287 applicants, or 63.4 per cent, are set to get a university admissions offer or better offers, up from 58.6 per cent a year earlier, with Thursday’s results marking the highest reconsideration success rate since 2018.

This year’s admissions body received 453 requests for reconsideration. It said 204 applicants with main round offers would receive a “better” degree offer, while 83 applicants who had not received an offer would receive one.

SCMP Economy also noted that the 2018 success rate, when 65.4 per cent of applicants saw improved allocations, was the last time the reconsideration improvement rate was higher than this year.
