Reprogrammed stem cell therapy improves heart failure symptoms in China

A phase 2 study follow-up released by Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital found 90.0% of severe heart failure patients saw significant recovery in heart function.

A hospital in east China says a reprogrammed stem cell therapy improved heart function in patients with severe heart failure, with the hospital reporting that 90.0% of participants showed significant recovery in heart function.

The results were released by Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, affiliated with Nanjing University, as long-term follow-up from a phase 2 clinical study published in Nature Medicine.

The outlet describes severe heart failure symptoms that can include shortness of breath after walking a few steps, an inability to lie flat, trouble sleeping at night, and frequent hospital visits, noting that heart failure can stem from multiple end stage cardiac diseases.
