SEBI adjudication proceedings fall to decade low in FY26
Fresh adjudication proceedings declined to 135 in fiscal year 2026, down from 204 a year earlier, as SEBI concentrated enforcement on higher-risk violations.
India’s securities regulator, SEBI, took up fewer formal adjudication proceedings in fiscal year 2026, with the total falling to a decade low, according to data analyzed by LiveMint.
Fresh adjudication proceedings dropped to 135 in FY26 from 204 in FY25, with adjudication orders passed against registered intermediaries declining to 88 from 116.
LiveMint said the reduction reflects improved compliance by listed companies and market intermediaries, including stronger insider-trading controls, better surveillance and enhanced internal systems.
The report adds that SEBI appears to be directing more enforcement capacity toward violations that pose greater risk to investors and market integrity, and it notes that adjudication is the regulator process for determining rule breaches and monetary penalties.
