Trump criticizes US-South Korea drills as Seoul seeks stability

Washington reiterated it is ready to talk with North Korea without preconditions, even as Trump signaled strain with Seoul.

South Korea’s security strategy, built for more than seven decades around its alliance with the United States, faces renewed strain after Donald Trump criticized joint US-South Korea military exercises as costly, according to SCMP Economy.

The outlet reports that Trump also praised his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, later telling the press that Kim responded positively to American overtures for dialogue, while the US State Department reiterated Washington’s readiness to hold talks with Pyongyang without preconditions.

SCMP Economy adds that, as of the time of writing, North Korea had not yet delivered an official response through state media.
