American Tungsten outlines high-grade tungsten resource at Idaho’s Ima

The initial estimate includes 316,000 indicated tonnes at 0.55% WO₃ and also covers surface tailings from past mining.

An initial resource estimate for American Tungsten’s Ima project in northeast Idaho positions it as the state’s highest grade tungsten project where tungsten is in the primary commodity, Mining.com reported. The company said the estimate was disclosed Thursday as it works to advance domestic tungsten supply amid intensified efforts following Chinese export controls and limited U.S. mine production.

The report outlines 316,000 indicated tonnes grading 0.55% tungsten trioxide (WO₃), containing 1,747 tonnes of WO₃, along with 404,000 oz. of silver. It also includes inferred resources totaling 2.1 million inferred tonnes at 0.55% WO₃, with 11,933 tonnes of WO₃ and about 1.8 million oz. of silver, according to the company.

The estimate further covers resources in surface tailings from past mining at the site, comprising 267,000 indicated tonnes at 0.15% WO₃, for 413 tonnes of WO₃ and 79,000 ounces. American Tungsten CEO Ali Haji described the mineral resource as a transformational milestone and said it validates the company’s view that the Ima mine hosts a high-grade tungsten system with scale and growth potential.

Shares in American Tungsten rose almost 4% to C$1.67 apiece in Toronto on Thursday morning, valuing the company at C$111 million, Mining.com reported. The release ties the project to uses for tungsten in armor-piercing ammunition, cutting tools and wear-resistant industrial alloys, and the company said it plans to advance Ima using a two-track approach focused on tailings evaluation and Phase II underground drilling and restart planning.
