Opatra London suspends Hong Kong distribution after arrests and raids
The company suspended its Hong Kong distribution agreement after local Sayles Retail managers were arrested following a customs raid tied to alleged aggressive sales tactics.
Opatra London has suspended its local operations in Hong Kong after allegations of aggressive sales tactics led to the arrest of senior local staff and a customs raid on a corporate secretarial office in Sheung Wan, according to SCMP Economy.
The customs raid targeted the local company, Sayles Retail, which Opatra London described as operating the local stores independently, and customs officers later arrested Sayles Retail's financial and administration managers under Hong Kong's Trade Descriptions Ordinance.
In a statement issued on Friday, Opatra London said it suspended the Hong Kong distribution agreement by mutual agreement with its local distributor.
The company said Hong Kong remains an important market for the group and that its commitment to customers in the city is unchanged.
