Wendy’s shares jump on reports of a possible take-private bid
Trian, which together with Nelson Peltz holds 24% of Wendy’s, is reported to be building a consortium that could submit an offer soon, while the company plans to revive its chief operating officer role at month end.
Wendy’s shares rose about 5% to $8.88 in midday trading Wednesday after media reports said Nelson Peltz’s Trian Fund Management is assembling a consortium to take the company private, according to Yahoo Finance citing coverage from the Financial Times and Reuters.
The reported group is expected to include Abu Dhabi-based BlueFive Capital and Flynn Group, a large restaurant franchise operator. Flynn Group operates about 309 Wendy’s restaurants in the United States, along with additional locations in Australia and New Zealand, the report said.
Trian and Peltz are major stakeholders, with Peltz owning a 16.2% stake in Wendy’s and Trian holding 7.9%, which together make them the company’s largest shareholders. The stock move is being treated as deal speculation amid earlier concerns about deteriorating same-restaurant sales and a withdrawn 2026 outlook, Yahoo Finance reported.
Separately, Wendy’s confirmed it will revive its chief operating officer role as part of a management reset. The company said its U.S. president, Pete Suerken, is set to depart on August 31, with the COO role to resume upon that timing.
