Marcos says he will endorse a 2028 candidate but will not name one

Ferdinand Marcos Jnr said he cannot yet specify who he will back, citing uncertainty around the choice despite Sara Duterte-Carpio signaling her 2028 run.

Ferdinand Marcos Jnr said he will endorse a candidate in the Philippines 2028 presidential election, but he declined to name who that person will be, according to SCMP Economy.

In remarks made on August 14, Marcos said he would “certainly endorse a candidate,” while adding that he does not know who it will be, noting that even he cannot tell at this point.

SCMP Economy reports that Marcos remains without a named running mate candidate less than two years before the election, as Sara Duterte-Carpio, his estranged vice-president and a political rival, has already declared her intention to run and is considered the early front runner.

The outlet also noted Duterte-Carpio faces an impeachment trial that could bar her from politics, even as Marcos continues to withhold endorsement details ahead of 2028.
