Israel says it struck a target in southern Syria, Damascus condemns

Syria’s foreign ministry said the drone strike near Beit Jinn, outside Damascus, injured civilians and violated its sovereignty.

Israel said it conducted an attack in southern Syria on Saturday, describing the target as a “terrorist” whose activity posed an immediate threat to Israeli soldiers, according to Reuters.

Syrian state media, via the country’s foreign ministry, said the strike was a drone attack on a civilian vehicle on a road near Beit Jinn village, in the countryside west of Damascus, and that civilians were injured.

Syria condemned the action as a “blatant” violation of its territory, adding that it fits a pattern of repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory.

The Israeli military did not specify how it carried out the firing in its statement, Reuters reported.
