AXA XL promotes Steven Lawrence to lead Fine Art & Specie
The promotion takes effect in September 2026, and AXA XL said the Fine Art and Specie market was valued at $5.2 billion in 2024 with a forecast to reach $10.2 billion by 2035.
AXA XL, the property and casualty specialty risk division of AXA, has promoted Steven Lawrence to head its Fine Art & Specie business for the UK & Lloyd’s, based in London, effective September 2026.
Lawrence previously served as Global Practice Leader for Jewellers, Specie and Cash in Transit, a role he has held since 2019. In his new position, he will develop, execute, and manage underwriting strategies for AXA XL’s UK & Lloyd’s Fine Art & Specie unit.
Reinsurance News also noted that Lawrence will retain his broader practice leadership role while taking over the new remit. AXA XL said Fine Art and Specie insurance was valued at $5.18 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach $10.2 billion by 2035, citing increased demand for art investments and the changing value of collectables.
AXA XL’s Chief Underwriting Officer Specialty for UK & Lloyd’s, Louise Nevill, said the unit is an important part of its UK & Lloyd’s Specialty business and emphasized that insuring high-value items requires expertise and an understanding of their true value.
