Bitcoin logs largest weekly dollar gain in history amid ETF inflows

Bitcoin rose $14,264 to close at $77,387 for the week ended Aug. 23, as spot bitcoin ETFs saw $1.92 billion in net inflows for the week ended Aug. 21.

Bitcoin logged its largest dollar-denominated weekly gain in history, rising $14,264 to close at $77,387 in the week ended Aug. 23, a 22.7% gain over seven days. The Block reports that the rally was triggered by the U.S. Treasury Department announcement expanding its buyback program, helping flip investor apathy into FOMO.

The improved sentiment showed up in U.S. bitcoin exchange-traded fund flows, with spot bitcoin ETFs reporting $1.92 billion in total net inflows for the trading week ended Aug. 21. The outlet cited SoSoValue data in describing the figures as the largest inflows the funds have seen since the peak of the prior bull cycle in October 2025.

The Block also pointed to the Crypto Fear and Greed Index at 78, near “extreme greed” and the highest since December 2024. Strive CEO said the next bitcoin cycle will be the strongest ever, citing bitcoin’s performance versus both the U.S. dollar and gold.

The outlet said bitcoin’s relative strength has broken out against the dollar and gold, calling the move “explosive,” and highlighted that the bitcoin-to-gold ratio stands at 16.73 ounces of gold per bitcoin, the highest since May. The Block further noted that a quoted view framed bitcoin as a “scarce monetary asset” likely to attract additional capital.
