Canada left talks in Washington as 50% tariffs loomed

The talks aimed to avoid new 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion of goods, after Canadian negotiators exited without an agreement.

Canadian negotiators left Washington without a deal meant to prevent new tariffs from being enacted, according to CNBC Markets.

The dispute was tied to failed efforts to head off a new round of 50% tariffs on about $20 billion worth of goods, after talks did not produce an agreement.

CNBC Markets said the failure came before President Donald Trump could move forward with the tariff plan.
